BK BBS Database version 4.6 incorporates a new method for viewing
the national lists. Please read the file BKLIST.DOC for information regarding
conversion of the national BBS lists to the BKBASE format.
Version 2.1 and up of BK BBS Database also uses command line switching
for the type of sorting you want. Default sorting technique is name.
SETUP:
BK BBS Database may be run locally by simply typing: BKBASE LOCAL
BK BBS Database can be run from the console under all the afore
mentioned BBS types.
The BRUN45.EXE run-time module must be in the current BKBASE
directory or located somewhere in your path. We haven't included
this file in the .ZIP archive because it really is an unnecessary
waste of archive (and downloading) space. If you don't have access
to this file, it is available 24 hrs a day on The Battle Zone BBS and
Universe of Karsheda BBS.
Command line switches for BK BBS Database are as follows:
System Type Switches
--------------------
/RY - for an RyBBS Bulletin Board
/WC - for a Wildcat! Bulletin Board
/PH - for a Phoenix Bulletin Board
/GP - for a GAP, Force!, T.A.G., Telegard Bulletin Board
/QB - for a QBBS, RBBS-PC 16.0+, OleCom, TP-Board 5.0+, Remote Access
/SF - for a Spitfire Bulletin Board
/P14 - for a PCBoard 14+ Bulletin Board
/P12 - for a PCBoard 12 Bulletin Board
Sort Type Switches
------------------
/BN - for name sorting
/BP - for number sorting
/BB - for baud rate sorting
Calling the BK BBS Database door should be done through a
batch file. Carrier is monitored, so there is no need for any
external monitoring programs.
Command line switches MUST be in this order:
bkbase <config file> <BBS type switch> <Sort type switch>
FAILURE TO PUT THE SWITCHES IN THE CORRECT ORDER WILL RESULT IN THE
PROGRAM DEFAULTING TO RYBBS FORMAT WITH NAME SORTING. If you use
another sorting method other than the default name sort, failure
to place the switches in the correct order will result in a severely
unorganized BBS list.
Here is an example batch file for calling BK BBS Database for an
Rybbs configuration with number sorting:
cd bkbase
bkbase bkbase.cfg /RY /BP
cd\rybbs
Example batch file for Wildcat! with baud rate sorting:
cd bkbase
bkbase bkbase.cfg /WC /BB
cd\wildcat
Example batch file for Phoenix with name sorting:
cd bkbase
bkbase bkbase.cfg /PH /BN
cd\phoenix
Example batch file for GAP, Force!, T.A.G., Telegard with number sorting:
cd bkbase
bkbase bkbase.cfg /GP /BP
cd\gap
Example batch file for QBBS, RBBS, OleCom, TP-Board, Remote Access with default
name sorting:
cd bkbase
bkbase bkbase.cfg /QB
cd\qbbs
*NOTE*:
The above batch file for QBBS will default to name sorting
technique. If you wish to use a different technique, include
the appropriate switch on the command line.
SETTING UP THE NATIONAL BBS LIST AREA:
As it stands, BK BBS Database is fully functional without the presence
of the two national BBS lists. These functions are merely a way to view
each of the national lists in an easy manner.
If you decide to use the Darwin List or The List, or both, you must
run the conversion program BKLIST.EXE to convert the list(s) to a data
file format for BKBASE to use. Detailed information about using BKLIST.EXE
is available in the file BKLIST.DOC.
FEATURES OF BK BBS DATABASE:
The program was written to give the essentials of BBS information in a
concise and easy to use format. Viewing the BBS list will display the
3 main items that will enable a successful call: The BBS name, number,
and baud rate. Extended BBS information will show all of the details of
a particular board...name, number, sysop, hours, baud rate, and much more.
Adding a BBS to the list is a very straight forward procedure, with a prompt
at the end asking if it is the correct information. If it is, the BBS
info is placed into its correct position in the current BBS list (according
to sort type). A limit of 9999 records has been added to the program.... a
fair amount, and if anyone ever reaches the 10000 mark in the database, please
let us know!!
Version 3.0 and above of the database now allows users to view the two most
widely recognized national BBS lists.
Version 4.6 allows users to search for BBS' using state, area code, or
text string searches. Viewers of the Darwin List also have an added option
of viewing the codes with which the list is presented.
That's it. We hope you enjoy the program.
Any suggestions about improvements to the program may be left on the
The Battle Zone BBS (414)961-1674 or Universe of Karsheda BBS (414)764-3244.
The registration fee for this particular version is $15.

full addition, deletion of database records, and creates a downloadable ascii
list of your BBS database.
